Sahaja means 'born with' and so Sahaja Yoga refers to how everyone is born with the necessary means to achieve 'Yoga' or union with the Divine.  It also refers to the subtle system of chakras and channels that we are all born with.  Within this system Kundalini resides in the sacrum bone at the base of the spine.  It is perhaps for this reason that the sacrum bone has, for many centuries, been seen as important, or sacred (hence its name).  When the Kundalini awakens She rises up the central channel through each of the chakras above the sacrum until She reaches the area above the top of the head (Sahasrara).  It is this happening that is known as achieving 'self realisation' or 'second birth'.  You know when this has happened as you can feel a cool sensation (or cool breeze) on the palms of your hands or soles of your feet and you stop thinking.  Shri Mataji has explained that when Kundalini passes through the Agnya chakra She extends the gap between our thoughts and creates a space in which we can meditate. Its not as if you can't think but more that you can think if you wish to, but if you don't wish to you can enjoy a deep and beautiful inner silence.

If you want to try this experience out click on the 'Try it NOW' link on the left where you can either watch a video clip or hear an audio clip of Shri Mataji talking you through the process of self realisation.

This short description roughly covers the basis of Sahaja Yoga from which there flows a never ending stream of knowledge and fun..... but for now this is probably enough to start off with.  I hope you enjoy the Sahaj information and opportunities that are available on the web and please visit one of our meetings should you wish to find out more.
